Weaving small paths of beauty in a heart-rending world

A nature & soul retreat at Rolling Ridge Study Retreat

Even in the chilliest of times,
and in the midst of a heart-rending world,
the old tales remind us that small things
have tremendous power.
A hummingbird brings back the sun.
An ancient woman re-creates the world
by weaving again a cloth of transcendent beauty.

NOTE: This retreat is nearly full.  We have four spaces left for campers.  Experienced campers only, please.  Bring your own tent.

Retreat leaders Jim Hall, Cheryl Hellner, and Lindsay McLaughlin are longtime members and associates of Rolling Ridge Study Retreat.  They have apprenticed nature-based soul work through numerous programs for many years.

Join us to wander the wild land of Rolling Ridge. Return to intimate relationship with the more than human ones, the Sacred Others in rock and stream, tree and bush, with the winged ones and the four, six, eight-legged ones.

Participate in ceremony and council:

  • Embody small rituals and gestures
  • Share in circles of safety and grace
  • Listen to poets and storytellers
  • Dance in sacred circles
  • Sing heart songs with and to the Earth

Cost of the retreat includes lodging, six meals, and program.

  • $445 – single occupancy (in any room)
  • $375– please designate your roommate when you register. We have two rooms with a full bed and three rooms with a bunk bed (two singles one over the other).
  • $350– camp: experienced campers only. Bring your own tent and set it up in the woods near the Retreat House.  You will have access to facilities in the Retreat House.

We offer limited scholarships.  Please apply using the Scholarship Application Form.

The Retreat House is a family cabin in the woods.  Two bedrooms open off a foyer near the living room on the first floor. Five bedrooms open off a balcony/hallway on the second floor. Bathrooms are located at the end of the hallways and are shared.  There are two full baths (toilet, sink, shower), and two half baths (one with a toilet/sink, the other with an additional shower and a sink).

You will need to bring your own sheets, towels, and toiletries.

Rolling Ridge Study Retreat is located on 1500 acres of mountain wilderness about 6 miles south of Charles Town, WV.  Charles Town is the nearest town, a half-hour’s drive over a two-lane mountain country road.   The last mile to the Retreat House is over a one-lane gravel road with one or two somewhat steep sections (vehicles may pass each other carefully).

The program will take place primarily outdoors.  Due to the wilderness setting and a program that includes walking on rough, uneven paths, carrying camp chairs and light gear, we request that you carefully assess your physical abilities before you register.

We cannot accept pets; please let us know if you are bringing a service animal.

Space is limited to 12 retreatants. Register early to secure your place. Non-refundable $75 deposit required.
