Just for Today -- day lily

A Haiku invitation into the present moment of Nature
July 12-14, 2018
Thursday evening, July 12 to Saturday evening, July 14
Rolling Ridge Study Retreat near Harpers Ferry WV

Join us on a retreat where we will learn how the practice of haiku poetry can take us into the direct immediate experience of Nature.

Poems that invite us to use all of our five senses help us to connect with and explore more deeply the small details of the natural world going on around us as we walk the woods alone and with others.

Morning workshops with Jeannie and afternoon workshops with Robin will be interspersed with haiku walks, writing, and time for solitude

Jeannie Martin, author of Clear Water: a haiku invitation into our luminous, sacred world, has been writing and teaching haiku for over 15 years. She has published haiku in a number of journals and anthologies, has written several small books of haiku poetry, and is a regular presenter at the Massachusetts Poetry Festival. She also works with formerly homeless men in Boston and is a Faculty Field Advisor at Smith College School of Social Work in Northampton, MA.

Robin White is the founding editor of Akitsu Quarterly, a haiku journal, and is the hostess of the Annual Haiku Gathering at Wild Graces in Deerfield, New Hampshire. She is also a potter, beekeeper, gardener, Reiki Master, and Licensed Nursing Assistant caring fordementia/Alzheimer’s patients, privately and in the community for over 25 years, from advanced stages through hospice.

Rolling Ridge Study Retreat is located just south of Charles Town, WV on 1400 acres of wilderness in the foothills of the Blue Ridge between the Shenandoah River and the Appalachian Trail. Quote of the Day

May you live with love, strength, faith and wisdom ... and have enough to share with those in need. May you have songs to sing and also blessed silence and peace through every night.

Silence is the beginning of peace. It is in silence that we learn that there is more to life than life seems to offer. There is beauty and truth and vision wider than the present and deeper than the past that only silence can discover. Going into ourselves we see the whole world at war within us and begin to end the conflict. To understand ourselves, then, is to understand everyone else as well.

Noise protects us from confronting ourselves, but silence speaks the language of the heart.
