The Gift of Story

An Advent Retreat at Rolling Ridge
December 7-9, 2012
Retreat House at Rolling Ridge Study Retreat and Still Point Mountain Retreat

The season of Advent is an annual invitation to quietly reflect on what gives us hope as we anticipate hearing the ancient stories of Jesus’ birth.  These stories touch the deepest of human yearnings: for love born among us, for light in the darkness, for fulfillment of our longing for a different kind of world.  But what are these stories really about and why do we tell them over and over again?

Through poetry, readings from Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Angeles Arrien and others, and with time for personal reflection, we will explore the power of story hidden in the familiar and beloved biblical narratives.

This retreat is designed to help us enter the intensity of the holiday season from a place of centeredness and quiet.  It offers time for solitude, for meditative walks in the early winter hush of the forest, and for silence and prayer.  Come and find peace amid nature’s wild beauty at Rolling Ridge.

The program will take place at the Retreat House of the Rolling Ridge Study Retreat Community.  Cost for the retreat is $140 per person, including lodging and six meals. To register, email Lindsay@rollingridge.net or call 304-724-1069. Send $50 reservation deposit to RRSR, 120 Jubilee Lane, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425.  Lodging is possible at Still Point Mountain Retreat for Friends of Silence.

Quote of the Day

This is the greatest skill of all, to take the bitter with the sweet and make it beautiful, to take the whole of life in all its moods, its strengths and weaknesses, and of the whole make one great and celestial harmony.
