Cultivating a Listening Heart

A Silent Retreat At Rolling Ridge
February 8-10, 2008

"It is only in identifying with Christ,
it is only by plunging into the
great silence of God within myself,
that I can love and identify with others."

— Catherine de Hueck Doherty

In the heart of winter’s stillness and at the start of the Lenten season, here is an opportunity to set time apart and come away for awhile to enter into the great silence of God – and seek to become more merciful and loving. Guided by simple spiritual meditations and creative exercises as well as the companioning presence of each other in the silence, we will seek to deepen our ability and willingness to listen truly to the Heart of our hearts.

We will come together Friday night for dinner, an introduction to the theme, and guidance into the Great Silence. Saturday will provide spaciousness in which to rest, reflect, and listen to the Holy – while walking the mountain's wilderness trails, sitting in front of the Retreat House hearth, journaling in your room, praying in the meditation shelter, or playing in the art cottage. We will come out of the silence together Sunday morning around a simple worship service and listening circle.

Participation is limited to a small number, so register soon. The total cost, which includes two nights lodging and six meals, is $100. Contact Trish Stefanik by phone: 304-724-1069 or email: tstefanik@aol.com to reserve a space. Send a $25 deposit (or the entire fee) to RRSRC, c/o Trish Stefanik, 120 Jubilee Lane, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425. See www.rollingridge.net for more information and directions. Please include your contact information, including phone and email, and any dietary or other special needs.

Participants are welcome to arrive at the Retreat House between 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday night. Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. The retreat will conclude with lunch on Sunday with departure by 2:00 p.m.

Quote of the Day

Spirit cuts like water though it all
Carving out this emptiness
So inner eye can see
The soaring height of canyon walls within
Walls whose very color, texture, form
Redeem in beauty all my life has been
The darkness and the light, the false, the true
While deep below through my parts
To resurrect my gravebound heart
Making, always making, all things new.
