Between the Body and the Breathing Earth

A ReStorying Retreat with David Abram and facilitated by Julie Gabrielli and Jim Hall
October 8-11, 2015
Thursday dinner - Sunday lunch
Still Point Mountain Retreat near Harpers Ferry WV

"A world made of story is an earth permeated by dreams, a terrain filled with imagination. Yet this is not so much our imagination, but rather the world's imagination, in which our own actions are participant. As players within an expansive, ever-unfolding story, our lives are embedded within a psyche that is not primarily ours, but is rather the earth's." --from Becoming Animal by David Abram

Come explore and replenish the forgotten intimacy between the human creature and the animate earth.  During this retreat we'll awaken our animal senses--opening our eyes, our ears, and our skin to the many-voiced terrain.  And we'll delve, together, into the earthly magic of language, exploring poetry and the power of Story, seeking fresh ways to articulate the emerging rapport (at once new and strangely ancient) between ourselves and the living land we inhabit.

David Abram, Ph.D., is an ecologist, anthropologist and philosopher whose writings have had a deepening influence on the environmental movement and have helped catalyze the emergence of several new disciplines, including ecopsychology. His books include The Spell of the Sensuous and Becoming Animal: An Earthly Cosmology.

Julie Gabrielli and Jim Hall share a fascination with the power of story to heal, reconnect, and create our world. Experienced retreat leaders, they bring years of dedicated studentship and mentorship through the arts and outdoor exploration.

This retreat will be held at Rolling Ridge Study Retreat and Still Point Mountain Retreat, on 1400 acres of sacred wilderness near Harpers Ferry, WV.
